Thai Spoon Menu

Thai Spoon Menu 2

I am startled by the fact that a Thai restaurant is serving Japanese sushi, but the special promotion just caught my eye. All of the maki rolls are 50% off 4-7pm on weekdays! I went in at 4pm and when I looked at the menu, I made up my mind give up the normal Thai dishes that I eat in there. (By the way, the Thai food is pretty good in that restaurant).

Sushi Platter
(White tuna roll, hamachi roll, escalor roll, dragon roll)

The menu doesn't look too bad, but it is way too pricey when you order it in normal price for a Thai restaurants that served sushi. The cheaper maki rolls are $5 each and the specialty rolls cost about $10 each. I have order 4 rolls: the black widow roll, the dragon roll, negehama roll(yellowtail) and the white tuna roll.

The sushi arrived promptly and the chef is Thai (I think). The presentation is okay, but I was wondering why they give me so little ginger. Well it turned out I only have 2 raw rolls and probably the chef was thinking that I don't really need that much ginger altogether. The specialty rolls turned out to be pretty good and the dragon roll is very nice. I think this is the first time that I have eaten the black widow roll and I think it taste pretty interesting. They have added some Thai element in this sushi as they put cilantro and a kind of fish flake in creating the roll and it taste a bit like a spring roll with rice in the outside. The other two raw fish roll is okay and I wasn't expecting a lot from the restaurant in terms of freshness of fish. At $16, it would be a bargain. But it's not too worth it if you would pay the full price.

Good:50% off on maki rolls makes the sushi inexpensive
Bad: not too authentic in Japanese food

On the side, you can try their satay, the penang curry or the messaman curry. It tastes pretty good too. Visited in Janaury 2008 (B+ at 50% off, B- at original price)
